Steve Smith looks rusty.

He may have scored a century on Sheffield Shield return, which would be music to the ears of Australia fans ahead of the Ashes 2025-26, but there’s still an area of concern.

On Monday, Smith walked out for the toss as he captained his domestic side, New South Wales, for the first time in eight years against Victoria at the Sydney Cricket Ground. However, he failed to properly toss the coin, leaving the commentators amused.

The coin barely rose before crashing onto the ground. The Victoria skipper won the toss and opted to bat first.

“Look at that! I think he needs practice tossing the coin. That was a shocker. That didn’t get above hip height," quipped a commentator.

“He has almost thrown that into the ground," said another.
