A 34-year-old woman has died following a stabbing in Birmingham city centre. The incident occurred on Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm on Friday, November 7. The woman was attacked in what police described as an ‘unprovoked’ assault and was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter. Djeison Rafael, 21, has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident. Following the victim's death, West Midlands Police announced they would seek to amend the charges to reflect the change in circumstances. Rafael was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court today. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated, "A woman has sadly died after a stabbing in Birmingham on Friday night. Our thoughts are with her loved ones, and specially trained investigators are supporting her family." This incident marks the third stabbing in the area within a month, raising concerns among local residents. In response, police have increased their presence in Birmingham city centre to reassure the public. Authorities are appealing for information regarding the incident and the movements of Rafael, who was reportedly wearing an all-grey tracksuit, a black hat, trainers, and carrying a rucksack at the time of the attack. Anyone with information is urged to contact police via 101, quoting log 5503 of November 7, or to submit evidence through the Major Incident Public Portal.
