PHOENIX — President Donald Trump issued federal pardons late Sunday to all 18 people charged in Arizona’s so-called “fake electors” case, stemming from an alleged attempt by Republicans to illegally overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in the state.
The pardon was announced on X, the site formerly known as Twiter, by Ed Martin, Trump’s pardon attorney.
The Arizona defendants were among defendants pardoned nationwide of their alleged roles in trying to reverse Trump's presidential election defeat in 2020.
Martin was a vocal defender of Trump’s baseless claims of vote fraud in the 2020 election and was an attorney for some of the January 6 rioters.
The impact of the pardons on the Arizona case is unclear. A president can issue pardons only for federal offenses.
