A containership has returned to the Port of Charleston after the crew detected smoke coming from one of the cargo holds while at sea.
Laust Maersk has undergone an inspection, the vessel's operator said Nov. 10.
The crew is safe, and the ship is believed to have sustained minimal damage.
The cause of the smoke has not been disclosed.
Maersk Line said all containers associated with the incident have been removed "in close coordination with the relevant authorities and in strict adherence to all safety protocols, and the vessel is now being made ready to resume its voyage in the coming days.
"Our teams continue working to minimize disruption to our customers’ logistics operations," the Danish shipping giant said in a written statement.
