James Robin “Rob” Barrick — who led Nashville-based Smith Seckman Reid Consulting Engineers for 32 years and was respected for his passionate service to Vanderbilt University specifically and his native Nashville more broadly — has died.
A release does not note either a cause of death or Barrick’s age.

Born in Nashville, Barrick attended Montgomery Bell Academy. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a Master in Business Administration, both at Vanderbilt University.
Barrick would go on serve as an adjunct professor in the Vanderbilt School of Engineering for 11 years.
Barrick joined Smith Seckman Reid Consulting Engineers (SSR) as a mechanical engineer in 1974, going on to dedicate 48 years to the firm. In 1984, Barrick moved to Houston to ope
