SAN ANTONIO — A high-speed chase ended in a multi-vehicle crash down Highway 16 on the far south side Monday afternoon, according to officials.

Authorities said the pursuit began in McMullen County around 3 p.m. after a deputy spotted a stolen vehicle. The deputy attempted to stop the driver, even deployed spike strips, but the driver avoided them and almost hit the deputy.

Officials said the pursuit continued for nearly 90 miles until the suspect crashed into multiple cars off Palo Alto Road and Applewhite Meadow near Von Ormy. The suspect was apparently driving the wrong way the entire time.

Authorities said the suspect reached speeds over 100 mph and multiple spike strips were deployed in an effort to stop the driver. Five to six other people were also inside the suspected vehicle.
