COLUMBUS — Ohio’s 88 county veterans service commissions should have more tools to reach military veterans in their communities, according to state Rep. Haraz Ghanbari (R., Perrysburg).
“I talk to veterans all the time, and I ask them, ‘Have you ever been down to the county veterans service commission?’ They say, ‘What’s that?’” Mr. Ghanbari said.
Mr. Ghanbari said it’s easy for commissions to track veterans who receive benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, but it’s often difficult to find veterans who don’t engage with that system. One way to find more veterans is to use data provided by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, he said.
