A Sixth Ward Middle School student could face criminal consequences after he shared AI-generated images depicting some of his female classmates nude, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office said Monday.
The unidentified student is accused of sharing the fake nude photos with other classmates and is facing 10 counts of unlawful dissemination of images created by artificial intelligence, the Sherriff's Office said.
The Sheriff's Office opened its investigation into the images on Aug. 26, after fake nude photos shared by boys at the school led to an "altercation" between a boy and a girl on a school bus. One boy was booked on Sept. 15, but Sheriff Craig Webre said he decided to share a public update on the case only after it was discussed at last week's Lafourche Parish School Board meeting.
