FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KKTV) - A shelter-in-place order was issued just before 7 p.m. for a gas leak in a Fountain neighborhood.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) said the shelter-in-place order is active for a half-mile radius around 800 Hayloft Lane, just south of Fountain-Fort Carson High School. A photo of the area is provided below.

The sheriff’s office said residents should stay inside, close doors and windows, turn off heating and cooling systems, refrain from using open flames or anything that could cause a spark and avoid the area if possible.

The utility company is on scene, but deputies said it could be several hours before the gas is shut off and the smell is resolved.
