Nongpoh, Nov 11: Cabbies operating between Nongpoh, Byrnihat and Jorabat have declared the taxi stand at Nongpoh a ‘No Smoking Zone’.

This move aims to ensure that drivers comply with the COTPA Act, 2003, which prohibits smoking in public places and public transport vehicles.

Cabbies under the Local Taxi Owners and Drivers Association also distributed identity cards to all commercial taxi drivers for verification and accountability in order to enhance taxi passenger safety. The association said drivers without valid ID cards will not be allowed to operate.

Additionally, the association has also released dedicated helpline numbers to assist passengers in filing complaints or seeking help in case of any inconvenience or untoward incident.
