LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - You know the quote “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”
That’s the philosophy a Louisville small business owner and her friend are taking to help people about 6,000 miles away in Nigeria.
Jill Higginbotham opened J Michaels Spa and Salon in St. Matthews nearly 15 years ago.
“People are always like, ‘Are you going to do a second location?’ I’m like no. Then I did, in another country,” Higginbotham says with a laugh.
That country is Nigeria. In the historical town of Egbe.
Her friend, Patrice Miles, and her husband worked to rebuild a hospital there from 2013 to 2019. She was shocked by what she saw.
