A white table cloth was draped over a wooden table on the stage inside Plum Senior High School’s auditorium.

The stage was dark, except for a single spotlight directed at the table.

A rose and a candle sat on top.

“This table is set for prisoners of war and those missing in action from all wars,” Kailey Burton, 17, told the crowd during a Veterans Day ceremony Tuesday morning.

“Their chairs are empty but saved for their hopeful return.”

Each item on the table served as a symbol.

The white tablecloth illustrates the “purity of intentions to respond to their county’s call to arms.”

The candle for the “frailty of a prisoner alone.”

The rose for the “life these Americans brought to the table,” Kailey explained.
