DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. — A Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital surgeon was among 12 people arrested in a sex trafficking operation in south Georgia.
Malcolm Tyrone Jefferson, 40, was arrested along with 11 others in a GBI operation called Operation Radiant Shadows. He is a surgeon at the hospital.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that the operation – called “Operation Raydiant Shadows” – targeted people who traveled from areas near Dougherty County with the intent to purchase sex or sell sex commercially. Officials said the goal of the operation was to draw in commercial sex buyers and sex workers and to identify and arrest human traffickers. The individuals arrested range from age 17 to 58.
Ten of the 12 people arrested are from South Georgia.
