OMAHA, Neb. —

The infamous intersection of 72nd and L Street is getting a makeover.

The L Street bridge over 72nd has been in place since 1962, making it 63 years old.

The demolition process on the bridge will begin Thursday night.

"Any big wrecking balls?" KETV's Samantha Pastorino asked Nebraska DOT construction engineer Barbara Gerbino-Bevins.

"No explosions, no wrecking balls," Bevins said.

The demolition, which will be done with jackhammers, is necessary to complete the biggest change this area will see — leveling 72nd and L.

"It's going to look very much like 84th and L," Bevins said.

Tony Egelhoff with Olsson Engineering, the team that helped design this project, said improvements are necessary.
