A cat found as a stray along Route 46 is recovering and looking for a home after arriving at the Bergen County Animal Shelter on Sunday, Sept. 28, officials said.

Shelter staff said the cat, named Mia, is about 5 years old. They described her as being extremely sweet and affectionate with a lot to say.

Mia was brought in after being found on Route 46, shelter officials said. Staff said she almost lost her life due to bladder stones. That means Mia will need to remain on a special prescription diet to prevent the buildup of stones again.

The shelter said Mia is stable and ready for adoption as long as her new home can maintain her required diet.
