LOS ANGELES – A bicycle rider was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision Wednesday evening in the South Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of East Vernon Avenue between Avalon Boulevard and McKinley Avenue at 7:25 p.m. regarding a person down, according to Officer Charles Miller.

Officers found the bicycle rider lying in the street and contacted Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, who pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police they saw a motorcycle rider leaving the scene, but could not provide a description, police said.

The victim’s name, age or gender were not immediately known.
