GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A Missouri man who sold unprocessed poppyseeds through his online business was sentenced in federal court in Green Bay to 18 months in prison.

Antony Graziano was also ordered to forfeit his Cape Girardeau home and $20,000 that was seized from his bank accounts.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says starting in 2020, Graziano’s business, Fireseed Bakery, sold poppyseeds with the intent that customers would soak them in liquids to extract their opium alkaloids -- like morphine, codeine, and thebaine.

Graziano compared the strength of this “poppyseed tea” to Oxycodone, an addictive painkiller, and he acknowledged consuming it carried a “significant risk” of overdose or death, prosecutors said.
