MADISON (WKOW) — A new name was added to the Hall of Heroes in Madison on Thursday.
U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Lynn Mitkos earned the honor. He received the Bronze Star with "V" device for valor, a soldier's medal and five Purple Hearts during his time serving in Vietnam.
The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital hosted the induction ceremony.
"Just a great honor," said Sgt. Mitkos on being added to the Hall. "You know, I expect a hero to be the ones that didn't make it back. So being honored this way, truly grateful."
The Granite City, Illinois, native served as an armor crewman during his tours, and later continued serving as a recruiter.
"I just, I just did what I was supposed to do." said Mitkos.
