A Detroit judge who last year garnered national scrutiny after having a sleepy teenager detained while on a field trip in his courtroom is now facing a professional misconduct case.

Judge Kenneth King of the 36th District Court was named in a formal complaint filed on Thursday, Nov. 13, by the Judicial Tenure Commission. The commission investigates bad behavior by judges, and the complaint details not only the incident with the teenager – already the subject of a federal lawsuit – but also an incident in 2022 in which King had an attorney detained and placed in handcuffs
