MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - An inmate serving time in an Alabama prison for a murder conviction is being indicted on two new counts, according to court documents.
Filings out of Bibb County show a grand jury handed down two indictments in early November against inmate Jhavarske Antoine Lewis. He now faces charges of disarming a law enforcement officer and attempted murder. The filings state that Lewis took a corrections officer’s DOC-issued radio, then used it to repeatedly hit the law enforcement officer in the head.
The indictment did not provide any details on the location or specific date of the alleged incident, but when reached for comment, a spokesperson for the Alabama Department of Corrections said ADOC records showed Lewis was involved in an assault on a guard in 2019.
