ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Deer hunting is a tradition across much of the United States, and this year hunters in the St. Louis and St. Charles County areas will need to drop by a mandatory testing site -- to get their trophy tested for Chronic Wasting Disease, better known as CWD.
“Opening weekend of the firearms deer season is the most popular two hunting days for most deer hunters,” the Missouri Department of Conservation says. “Hunters take about a third of our state’s total annual deer harvest during those two days.”
By requiring this mandatory testing, the MDC has it’s “best opportunity” to collect the most data and plan for containing and managing the disease.
