GREENSBORO, N.C. — On Friday morning Samaritan’s Purse officially retired its Douglas DC-8 cargo aircraft and dedicated its new Boeing 767 during a ceremony at the ministry’s Airlift Response Center in Greensboro.
The DC-8 served as the organization’s primary heavy-lift aircraft for more than a decade. Since 2015, it has flown 217 missions and delivered over 9.2 million pounds of emergency supplies to communities impacted by disasters, conflicts, and humanitarian crises. It is the last U.S.-registered DC-8 still flying.
According to Samaritan's Purse, the plane's replacement, a newly commissioned Boeing 767, will expand the ministry’s ability to respond quickly and move larger amounts of cargo to hard-hit areas around the world.
