Dozens of South Australian schools have been swept up in the widening recall of coloured sand products, with education officials confirming that more sites have now reported finding the items on their grounds.
The discovery comes only days after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced an urgent national recall for several coloured sands supplied by Educational Colours.
This follows laboratory tests that detected tremolite asbestos.
The products - widely used for arts, crafts and sensory activities - were sold across major retailers and online.
The recall covers batches manufactured between January 2020 and October 2025, including Kadink Sand (1.3kg), Educational Colours - Rainbow Sand (1.3kg) and Creatistics - Coloured Sand (1kg), all produced in China.
