In her small apartment in Westmoreland’s Union Manor, Barbara Johnson makes quilts for patients in hospice. She doesn’t have a lot of space for it – two sewing machines take up most of her living room and she does larger cutting projects in her bedroom – but she’s passionate about the work.
Johnson, 75, has trouble standing for long periods of time due to back problems. That means that while she is perfectly capable of sewing, she is not mobile enough to cook for herself. So, once a week, Michele and David Lytle deliver a bag of food through Meals on Wheels People, including a loaf of bread, a gallon of milk and some pre-prepared meals and little treats, to her door.
Meals on Wheels People, Johnson said, has been “a lifesaver.”
