CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Chanting in opposition to U.S. Customs and Border Protection activity in Charlotte, hundreds of people protested in Uptown Charlotte Saturday afternoon.
By that time, videos had begun circulating online, showing Border Patrol agents detain or arrest people across town.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said its reason for surging law enforcement officers into Charlotte, in an operation called “Charlotte Web,” was to ensure Americans are safe and public safety threats are removed.
The “emergency protest,” organized by the Party for Socialism and Liberation, began at 2 p.m. at First Ward Park.
