Two major motorways are shut in both directions following a serious crash last night (Sunday, November 16).

Emergency services were called to reports of an incident on the M66 near Bury at around 10.30pm. Police, paramedics and fire crews are in attendance and have stopped traffic in both directions from J3 for Pilsworth to J4 for the M60 and Simister Island.

The incident has also resulted in the closure of the M66 and heavy traffic on the M62 westbound.

Videos taken at the scene show a large emergency services presence at the Simister Island roundabout. The Mirror has contacted Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Serivice and North West Ambulance service for further information.
