A nine-month-old boy, Jonte William Bluck, has been identified as the victim of a fatal dog attack in south Wales. The incident occurred on November 2 while Jonte was staying at his father's home in Rogiet, Caldicot, Monmouthshire. The Gwent Coroner's Court opened an inquest into Jonte's death on November 17, revealing that the provisional cause of death was a compressive head injury consistent with a dog bite. Area coroner Rose Farmer stated, "Jonte William Bluck sadly passed away on the 2nd of November 2025 at his home address. The brief circumstances are that on the 2nd of November he was staying at the home of his father when he was bitten by the family dog." Emergency services were called, and Jonte was transported to the Grange University Hospital but tragically died before arrival. Following the incident, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury resulting in death. They were also arrested on suspicion of child neglect but have since been released on police bail as investigations continue. The dog involved in the attack was a six-year-old XL bully, which had been registered with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). A certificate of exemption for the dog was issued in 2024. The animal was euthanised following the incident. The inquest has been adjourned until August 4, 2026, to allow for further police inquiries. The community is left in shock as they come to terms with this tragic event.
