GRUNDY COUNTY, Iowa — The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on Sunday along Highway 20.
Around 9:30 p.m., law enforcement attempted to stop a vehicle driven by a wanted man from Waterloo. Law enforcement says the driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit. After the vehicle was disabled, the suspect exited, fired at officers, and was shot in return by deputies and a state trooper.
The suspect was given medical attention at the scene and transported to Mercy One in Waterloo, where he was pronounced dead. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says the officers involved were not injured and are on critical incident leave per department policy.
The investigation is still ongoing, and no further details have been released.
