Montreal police are seeking a third suspect in connection with an apparent home invasion early Friday that ended with the shooting death of one man and the wounding of another.

But despite reports depicting the shooting as a homicide, a police spokesperson said on Monday that investigators are trying to determine what led to the gun being fired several times in an east-end apartment.

“Right now all hypotheses are on the table,” Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant said. “Is it a case of murder or self-defence? We’re still trying to determine that.”

Brabant said investigators are trying to track down a third suspect who apparently was not in the apartment when the shooting started and who might be able to shed light on what happened.
