An urgent manhunt is in progress following the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Birmingham. Yassin Alama, aged 19, was tragically killed in a violent attack on Hutton Road at approximately 5.20pm yesterday evening.
West Midlands Police have identified 17-year-old Oumar Traore as a suspect in the case and are seeking the public's assistance in locating him. In a statement, the police said, "Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Handsworth have this afternoon named a teenager who is wanted over the killing. Oumar Traore, aged 17, is wanted for questioning following the death of Yassin Alama."
Yassin was pronounced dead at the scene, and police are providing support to his grieving family. Jenny Birch, from the force's Homicide team, expressed the family's devastation, stating, "Yassin's family have been left absolutely devastated by what has happened, and we are doing everything we can to support them, and to give them answers."
Authorities have made several attempts to apprehend Traore since the incident but have not yet succeeded. They are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact them immediately. "If anyone sees him, or has information about where he might be, they should not approach him but call us straight away on 999, quoting log 3135 of 16 November," the police advised.
In response to the incident, West Midlands Police will implement Section 60 powers starting from 4pm today, extending into tomorrow. This measure allows officers to stop and search individuals in the areas of Lozells, Handsworth Wood, Witton, and near Nechells without needing reasonable grounds. The police have also announced that additional officers will be deployed to these areas to reassure the community and address any concerns.
