CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The mayor of Charlotte on Monday urged federal agencies to uphold the “rights and constitutional protections” of community members amid a Border Patrol operation in the city .
Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles on Monday, Nov. 17 expressed concern about how Border Patrol officers were carrying out an immigration enforcement operation in the city. Federal officers have been seen throughout the Charlotte since Saturday, Nov. 15, when agents began detaining people .
Federal officials say the operation in Charlotte, dubbed “Charlotte’s Web ,” is meant to target criminals who are also undocumented immigrants. Gregory Bovino, U.S. Border Patrol commander at large, posted photos of a handful of Charlotte detainees on social media, calling out their alleged criminal history.
