JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The Jackson Police Department is investigating after responding to a scene reportedly involving a fetus.
Officers responded to a scene on Jeanette Circle, off Timber Crest Drive.
The coroner was also called to the scene.
According to Interim Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard stated that the remains were found in a shallow grave in the backyard of the home by a JPD officer.
Howard also stated that the remains will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The circumstances and manner of the death are unknown, but Howard believes from a preliminary investigation that the fetus has been there for a few days, and it was believed to be a premature childbirth.
