Stadiums Tasmania aims to have national exclusive concerts played at the Macquarie Point stadium to attract interstate and international visitors, at a potential upfront cost of millions of dollars for just one event.

The organisation's chief executive James Avery told a budget estimates committee on Tuesday that international artists wanted to perform in Tasmania, but the state did not have the facilities to showcase them and make it stack up financially.

He said discussions with concert promoters had given Stadiums Tasmania confidence to get artists down to the state to perform in the lead-up to the waterfront stadium's opening in 2029.
