One firefighter was injured and at least 24 people were displaced following a five-alarm fire in Roselle on Monday, Nov. 17, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the 300 block of East 9th Street and immediately encountered heavy fire conditions involving the home, Roselle Fire Chief Christopher Laba said.
Due to the volume of fire and rapid spread, crews established an exterior attack and began operating multiple hose lines to protect exposures and bring the fire under control, Laba said.
The heavy blaze necessitated additional alarms, and mutual aid was requested throughout Union County, Laba said. The fire eventually tolled five alarms, Laba said.
The Roselle Police Department, Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross, and several county agencies assisted on scene to ensure the safe relocation and support of affected residents, Laba said.
A firefighter sustained a minor arm injury, while the homes suffered significant loss, Laba said.
The fire remains under investigation, Laba said.
