QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Ill. (KWQC) - As overnight temperatures fall below freezing, service providers across the Quad Cities say more people are sleeping outside, and for now, there is no emergency winter overflow shelter available anywhere in the metro area.
Last winter, Project Now and Christian Care opened a temporary overnight shelter in downtown Rock Island for 90 days. The effort helped connect 13 people to permanent housing.
This year, that option does not exist. Project Now says it wants to open a shelter again but is struggling to find a location.
