GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A new park on Grand Rapids’ southwest side officially has its title, after a previously proposed name was rejected due resident opposition.

Unity Park is the new name for the $2.3 million city park that’s currently under construction at 680 Cesar E. Chavez Ave. SW, in Grand Rapids’ Roosevelt Park neighborhood. The Grand Rapids City Commission unanimously approved the name Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The name was chosen through a resident poll that had 415 respondents. Unity Park was the top vote-getter, receiving 232 votes, followed by the runner-up, Navarro Plaza, which received 183 votes.
