PORTLAND, Ore. — A passenger at Portland International Airport managed to get a meat cleaver through TSA screening and onto a Delta flight last week, prompting new questions from travelers about how such a large, prohibited item slipped past security.
The incident unfolded Thursday as passengers prepared to board a flight to Salt Lake City. Airline staff found the meat cleaver after the traveler had already made it onto the plane. Port of Portland police were called, though no arrests were made. It's unclear how staff found the large knife or why the knife was in their carry-on luggage.
All passengers were made to deplane and go back through security out of an abundance of caution, causing about a 2-hour delay.
