DES MOINES, Iowa —

The Iowa State Education Association — the state's union of public school teachers and education support professionals — is speaking out against the most recent efforts to dismantle the Department of Education.

On Tuesday, the department announced it'd be moving some key functions and programs , such as Title funding for low-income students, to other departments like the Department of Labor. It's part of the Trump administration's longstanding effort to dismantle the education department as a whole.

While the goal of consolidating the departments is to reduce red tape and bureaucracy within education, ISEA's Executive Director, Coy Marquardt, told KCCI he doesn't think it'll work.
