Police have booked the case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, sources said.
Police have arrested one person in connection with the alleged theft of high-grade steel plates and iron rods valued at nearly Rs 1 crore, materials originally meant for the 1,200 MW Teesta-III Hydel Project in Chungthang, North Sikkim.
According to officials, the materials were being transported by Shree Balaji Logistics under a contract with Larsen & Toubro when discrepancies surfaced during a routine audit. The review revealed that a significant portion of the consignment had gone missing. The missing materials include 25 steel plates conforming to IS 2002 Grade-2 specifications and several iron rods worth nearly Rs 1 crore, reports said.
