The Supreme Court has struck down several important provisions of the Central Government's Tribunal Reforms Act 2021. The Court clearly stated that Parliament cannot overturn the Court's decision by making minor changes.
Taking a strong stance, the Court said that the government re-inserted the same provisions into the law that the Court had previously rejected.
The Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR. Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran delivered the 137-page verdict on Wednesday. The Court had reserved its judgment after the hearing concluded on November 11.
What is the entire case?
The entire matter is related to 2020. In November 2020, the Supreme Court fixed the tenure of the chairman and members of the tribunal at five years. The government brought in a new law and reduced the tenure
