BOSTON —

The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is holding an emergency two-day adoptathon after two recent cruelty investigations resulted in close to 150 animals being surrendered.

In one case, 26 animals were seized in August from a property in Winchendon, including 24 dogs and two cats. Seven puppies were born in foster care following the seizure.

The second group of 116 animals was originally removed from a Plympton property in September . The majority of the animals were farm birds, including chickens, turkeys, geese, quails, ducks and one guinea hen. There are also two dogs, two cats, two ferrets, five rabbits and five goats.

Another 100 animals have also been seized in the last few months as part of other investigations, the MSPCA said.
