CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Over 56,000 students were absent from class during the first two days of school this week, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials said on Wednesday, Nov. 19, that 25,697 students were absent on Tuesday, Nov. 18, a decrease of about 4,700 from Monday.
Officials said on Monday the total number of students absent was 30,399 .
School officials said the number of absences is unofficial and will still need to be approved by the state.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools did not say whether the absences were connected to the Border Patrol operation underway in the city.
