WASHINGTON — The cost of a classic Thanksgiving dinner is down slightly this year, although many side dishes are more expensive and overall prices remain higher than before the pandemic, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 40th annual holiday survey.
The report estimates the average cost of a traditional Thanksgiving meal for 10 people will be $55.18, down 5% from last year. Despite the decline, the group says grocery inflation over the past several years continues to leave many families paying more than they did four years ago.
The Farm Bureau bases its estimate on volunteer shoppers who visit stores nationwide and price-check common holiday items, including turkey, stuffing, rolls, sweet potatoes, vegetables and pumpkin pie mix.
