EUGENE, Ore. - A momentary distraction while driving changed Jessica Lynne's life forever. In 2015, she crashed her car while attempting to connect her Bluetooth, with her daughter in the passenger seat.
"I looked away from the task at hand from driving to connect my Bluetooth to my phone and while I was traveling 35 miles an hour my car traveled over 82 feet in 1.59 seconds and that is all the time that it took for me to look up and see a stop sign go by," Lynne said.
The Oregon Department of Transportation reported that between 2017 and 2021, drivers aged 16 to 18 were involved in 125 distracted driving crashes, though none were fatal. This statistic is part of a broader concern for road safety during this period.
