GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WITN) - State Auditor Dave Boliek revealed his office’s independent assessment of the North Carolina Office of Recovery and Resiliency.
The audit details systemic failures in the agency’s administration of over $1 billion in disaster recovery funds, leaving thousands of struggling hurricane victims.
For victims like Viola Figueroa, who lost her home to Hurricane Matthew in 2016, the audit’s findings are a painful confirmation of years of waiting.
“It took us seven years to the date to move into our home that was built by rescues. I call them ‘constructions,’” Figueroa said.
NCORR was tasked with managing over $1 billion in combined state and federal disaster recovery funds through its Homeowner Recovery Program for Hurricanes Matthew and Florence.
