DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A Duplin County man who served in three wars for the United States celebrated hitting the century mark today.

JD Smith was born on November 19th, 1925. He’s dedicated 24 years to the army, serving in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

When asked if he feels 100 years old, he said he feels more like he’s 250.

Today, surrounded by family and friends, Smith said it was special to have them around. His granddaughter, Amanda, said last year that they weren’t sure he’d make it to 100.

“As far as three wars and also surviving getting hit by a train while hauling pigs, by the grace of God, he’s still here,” said Amanda Register.

Duplin County also honored Smith by recognizing him for his achievements.
