GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - On Wednesday, a highway dedication ceremony was held in honor of former Sen. Thomas F. Taft Sr.

The NCDOT dedicated a portion of Highway 11 in Pitt County to be named after him.

Taft is a Greenville native with over 50 years in civic and public service who served three terms in the state senate, where he focused on a variety of issues such as economic development, education, transportation and environmental protection.

Mayor P.J. Connelly gave remarks as well as Gov. Josh Stein.

Taft says the dedication was not about him but about serving the public.
