“I heard this dreadful noise outside in the ­garden – I still can’t get it out of my head. I have never heard anything like this in my life, it was ­horrendous. It sounded like an animal in agony,” Agnes Wright (60) said.

“I looked out the window and saw foxhounds everywhere. They were out of control. The men in the lane were blowing the horn and ­screeching.”

She said “it seemed to last for ever” before the dogs left their property.

Ms Wright cares for her sister Lily (56) at home in Suncroft, a village south of The Curragh.

She played music at high volume to try and block out the sounds, which were distressing Lily, but it was impossible to drown out the racket.
