NIAGARA, Wis. – Senior Elesia Sweig hit three 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 11 points to lead the Niagara Badgers to a 36-16 victory over Laona-Wabeno on Tuesday in a girls basketball season opener at Niagara High School.
Neither squad shot well on opening night. The Lady Badgers shot only 29% from the field, while the Rebels connected on just 20% of their shots.
Sweig sank two 3-pointers and a 2-point bucket in the first half and Lexi Johnston added a triple, a bucket and a free throw as Niagara built a 24-6 lead heading into the locker room.
The teams combined for only 22 points in the second half with the Badgers scoring 12.
Alivia Kleikamp scored seven points and Sydney Swanson contributed five in the win.
Lovey VanZile paced the Rebels with five points.
