People in England will have to wait an extra year to receive their free bus pass, the Department of Transport (DfT) has confirmed.
The rules will change from April, 2026, in stark contrast to how the service is operated across Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
In those countries, free bus travel is available from the age of 60, but in England the benefit doesn't kick in until the age of 66.

Here, the benefit is in line with the State Pension age, but the waiting period is about to be extended by another 12 months.
This is happening due to the rise in the State Pension age, which is due to fully increase from 66 to 67 by the year 2028.
